Enlighten Publishing Studio is a publishing production studio that turns the knowledge, experience, and stories held by experts and entrepreneurs into books.
We find the theme through dialogue, research it, shape the concept, and carry it through writing, editing, and design — publishing in both Japanese and English.
We don't simply turn a manuscript into a book. We begin by taking an idea that hasn't yet found words, and growing it into a fully-formed book concept.
No manuscript needed — we can start from the idea
What becomes a book doesn't always begin in the shape of a manuscript. It might be:
- Experience gained over years of work
- A methodology you've built on your own
- Something you want to share about your region or culture
- A theme people love when you talk about it, but that you can't quite begin to write yourself
Through dialogue, we find its core, then design the reader, the structure, the title, and the positioning.

In our publishing production, we handle the entire process as one:
Dialogue and discovering the theme
We organize your knowledge, experience, and concerns to find the core of the book.
Market research and concept design
We study existing titles and reader needs to define the book's unique position.
Writing and editing
Through interviews, co-writing, or editing, we create the manuscript in the way that suits the author best.
Photography and design
We refine the photographs, diagrams, cover, and layout so the content comes across visually as well.
Publishing in Japanese and English
As a rule, we plan with publication in both Japanese and English in mind.
Promotion and beyond
We also envision what comes next — promotion, social media, seminars, exhibitions, and talk events — using the book as a starting point.

Enlighten Publishing Studio aims for more than simple translated publishing.
Rather than swapping the Japanese edition word-for-word into English, we adapt the title, structure, and expression so each resonates with its own readers.

From our own publishing experience
At Enlighten Research Studio, under the name Okazaki Optical Laboratory, we have planned, written, and edited three books on the theme of photography and film cameras, publishing them in both Japanese and English.
From concept and writing to photo selection, design, e-book production, paperback creation, sales pages, and promotion — we have done it all ourselves.
We bring that hands-on experience to the publishing of experts and entrepreneurs in other fields.
Projects in progress
We are currently developing several projects, including a practical guide on culture and daily life, a professional book on real estate and regional revitalization in Kyoto, and a book depicting classic cameras and the industrial history of the twentieth century.
